© Laurent Van der Stockt - Gamma

A member of the Gamma agency, Laurent Van der Stockt has covered many major conflicts for the world’s press. Newspapers the world over have featured his work, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the US invasion of Iraq. Despite this, he never refers to himself as a war photographer. Highlighting the contradictions of a humanity that often appears in its darkest form but which can also shine in the adversity of conflict, Laurent Van der Stockt focuses on individual people faced with national tragedy.
The pictures speak for themselves: faced with a reality that can leave no one unmoved, the photographer seems to invite the viewer to draw his own conclusions and to become aware of the daily lives of the people in the photographs.
The exhibition presents photographs produced on the margins of Van der Stockt’s main work. In addition to the images from Chechnya, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Congo and Haiti that have been selected, printed and seen in the press, Laurent Van der Stockt explores the existence and human condition of the Other.
