‘I’m more interested in ‘unfinished’ photography: suggestive photography that sparks conversation or dialogue.’ Creating a relationship with the viewer is the cornerstone of Paolo Pellegrin’s work. After studying architecture, anthropology and photography in his native Rome, Paolo turned to photojournalism in the 1990s. He focused on immigration, AIDS, terrorism, voodoo and pornography before looking at the effects of war and poverty on societies. Paolo joined Magnum in 2001 and became an active member in 2005. He has received some of the highest accolades, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award, the Olivier Rebbot prize, 6 World Press Photo and the W. Eugene Smith endowment in 2006 to help him pursue his long-term project, ‘Maktub’.
Born in 1964, he lives in Rome and New York.
A Photo Poche published by Actes Sud accompanies the show.
