Du Sel au Pixel

École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière

As part of its partnership with the Maison Européenne de la photographie, the Ecole nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière produces Du sel au Pixel , the Month of Photography 2010 newsletter. Du sel au Pixel aims to look at current events at the Month via portraits, reports and exhibition presentations.

It will be produced by a team of about twenty people. Teachers and students take part at every stage, from design to production (defining editorial style, making reports and portraits, printing, editorial work, layout, colour management, etc), showcasing the entire range of teaching given at the school focusing on the artistic, technical and professional aspects of taking and processing photographic images.

The inititative includes:
• a presentation at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie
• printing and distributing a newsletter
web pages

More than ten years experience will ensure the success of this project, which was launched during the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d’Arles and has continued throough the last three editions of the Month of Photography. The École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière offers theoretical, technical, and artistic training in image and sound production. Placed under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, it is a public higher education institution that recruits students having completed two years of study after the baccalauréat. It has three main departments – Photography, Film, and Sound – and delivers a highly respected postgraduate diploma.

The photography department covers a significant number of professional activities (press photography, publishing, industral and institutional photography, etc), post-production (physical or chemical image processing), systems management (quality control, logistics, databases, on-line images, etc), technical and commercial support (industral aspects and distribution), specialised journalism (trade press), training and research.
